Klarna, which provides ‘buy now – pay later’ loans, said that it stopped hiring in 2023, while ramping up the installation and use of Artificial intelligence.
However, while Klarna announced a hiring freeze, the company continued to advertise ‘open jobs’.
I wonder, how many people wasted their time and energy filling out Klarna applications and going through interviews for jobs that did not exist.
Klarna went from 5,527 full-time employees at the end of December 2022, and by the end of December 2023, just one year later, Klarna was down to 3,422 employees.
In 2024, Klarna launched an Ai customer service assistant and cut 700 jobs, and now, Ai has replaced and is doing the work of 700 customer service agents.
Klarna attributes the reduction of ‘human employees’ to leveraging Ai technology, and further said, that they expect ‘headcount’ to continue to fall over time.
