Amazon is laying off 10,000 (TEN THOUSAND) employees in it’s corporate and technology departments according to the New York Times.
The Wall Street Journal reports that it plans to lay off thousands of employees.
This would be the largest cut of employees in Amazon History.
The reports note that the layoffs are less than 1% percent of Amazon’s global workforce and 3% percent of its corporate employees.
As though they want to soften the news by noting that there are laying off more corporate employees (3%) than the blue collar workforce (1%).
Regardless, these are jobs lost and it is not isolated to Amazon.
The New York times reported that the Amazon layoffs ‘remains fluid’ and could change, whatever that means.
In addition, Amazon also plans on freezing new hires, has shut down its telehealth service, discontinued video-calling projector for kids, closed all but one of US Call Centers, canceled the roving delivery robot project, closed under performing brick-and-mortar chains, and delaying or canceling or closing new warehouse locations.
