eBay has this thing about ‘policies’… they change like the weather.
What I mean is that eBay is now considering giving Buyers a 30 minute window to ‘change their mind’ to cancel an order.
Sounds cool, you would think.
This is only in the ‘test’ phase and some Sellers have provided feedback, and the feedback goes something like this:
In June 2025, a Buyer posted that after clicking ‘pay’ on an eBay order she got a message that read:
‘Need to change your address or payment details? Update your order.’
Well, eBay has a ‘policy’ that if the Seller ships an order to an address other that the one ‘on file’ for the Buyer, then the Seller is not protected by the eBay ‘Seller Protection Policy’.
NEXT, this could cause an issue for the Seller because the item remains ‘listed for sale’ until after the 30 minute window closes.
So if a different Buyer comes along and clicks to buy the same item, before the first 30 minute window closes for the FIRST Buyer, then the SECOND Buyer may take the item.
The issue then becomes, that if the FIRST Buyer allows the 30 minute window to close and does not ‘change their mind’, then the FIRST Buyer and the SECOND Buyer will both be charged, causing a Double Payment for the same item.
In this case, one Buyer is gonna be upset when they learn they have lost the item, while the other is going to be happy with their purchase, and the Seller will have to deal with an unhappy customer and having to go through the refund process.
eEbay is looking into the issue so we will just have to wait for any changes.
It’s important to note that Amazon does also have a similar 30 minute window feature, but it seems to be a bit more sophisticated.
As an Affiliate Marketer, you don’t have to bother yourself with such evolving policies, all you would need to do is, link to the item within your content method, and let these issues resolve themselves between the Seller, the Buyer, and the Platform.
As the Affiliate Marketer, you can happily move on and continue promoting and attracting traffic and work on increasing your engagement with your followers.
And just so you know, eBay does have an affiliate program, and though Amazon is the biggest of all affiliate programs, they certainly are not the most profitable.
